Q. What is the NASCC?

A. The North American Steel Construction Conference is a premier education event aimed at providing structural engineers, steel fabricators, erectors, and detailers with practical information and the latest design and construction techniques. In addition, the Steel Conference offers an extensive trade show, featuring products and services ranging from fabrication machinery, galvanizing, and connection products to detailing and engineering software. It’s a once-a-year opportunity to learn the latest techniques, see the most innovative products, and network with your peers and clients.

Q. Who attends the NASCC?

A. More than 2,300 structural engineers, steel fabricators, erectors, detailers, educators, and others involved in the design and construction of fabricated steel attend the conference each year. In addition to conference seminars, attendees have many networking opportunities, including the annual Fabricator Workshops, where fabricators can exchange ideas in a non-competitive environment.

Q. What will I learn at the NASCC?

A. More than 60 technical sessions offer a variety of educational opportunities. Learn about topics ranging from improving detailing business practices to innovative steel design systems to practical information on serviceability design considerations. Some sessions focus on technical engineering issues (such as HSS Connection Design after 2005), while others focus on fabrication (Economics and Practicality of Bar-Coding), erection (Erection Crisis Management), or detailing (Detailing Considerations for Erection). New this year, a special seismic track focuses on earthquake engineering. The conference offers pre- and post-conference short courses on interoperability, beam bracing, contract termination, and AISC’s new Steel Construction Manual. A pre-conference symposium on “PurgingExtras” will also be offered.

Q. Who are the speakers?

A. The NASCC speakers are selected both for their expertise on the subject matter and the quality of their presentations. The Steel Conference features such industry notables as Duane Miller, Larry Kloiber, Larry Griffis, Jon Magnusson, Kirk Harman, and many others!

Q. What will I find in the Exhibit Hall?

A. The 65,000+ sq. ft exhibit hall features more than 120 exhibitors demonstrating the latest products. You’ll find fabrication equipment, detailing software, connection products, safety equipment, engineering software and coatings. Equipment manufacturers typically provide full demonstrations of their equipment—steel beams are cut, punched, and drilled right on the exhibit-hall floor!

Q. What are the Exhibit Hall hours?

A. Wednesday, February 8, 2006: 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Welcome Reception in exhibit hall from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
    Thursday, February 9, 2006:  9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    Friday, Februrary 10, 2006: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Q. What is the Stability Conference?

A. Since 2001, the Structural Stability Research Council has conducted its annual Stability Conference as part of the NASCC. These presentations include papers from the leading steel researchers on such topics as “seismic induced frame instability” and “lateral torsional buckling.” In addition, the Stability Conference includes the 2006 Beedle Award Paper Presentation. Registration for the NASCC includes the stability conference (there is an additional charge for the SSRC Proceedings).

Q. When do I need to book my hotel room?

A. All hotel rooms must be booked by the cut off date of Friday, January 13, 2006

Q. Why should I book a room in the NASCC Housing Block?

A.AISC selects Conference hotels based on proximity and convenience to the Convention Center, as well as the best value for the attendees. The more rooms we confirm in official hotels the longer we can keep registration costs at their current low prices. Exhibiting companies receive priority points for booking before the cut-off date at one of the official NASCC hotels. One complimentary stay, for 4 nights room and tax, will be given away  in San Antonio, TX for the 2006 NASCC Conference. The winner will be drawn from the pool of those who reserve a room through the housing bureau.
