Past workshops

2007 Fall Workshop

This upcoming workshop was held at the Hyatt Rosement on October 11, 2007.  This workshop was specifically oriented towards CM/Architectural faculty.  Created by Pat Tripeny and Ryan Smith from University of Utah, this Case Study will focus on AISC’s Case Study #2, Financial Center, Biondo Group, Pennsylvania This Case Study #2 offers three elements needed by a steel teaching tool; it is visual, it is design-based, and it is a current project.

NASCC 2007 Educator Session

Teaching Principles of Seismic-Resistant Design of Steel Building Structures

Two half-day sessions were held on April 17th and April 18th at the Ernest Morial Convention Center during the AISC North American Steel Construction Conference in New Orleans.  This teaching aid is a series of annotated PowerPoint modules cover basic concepts on seismic-resistant design and detailing of steel buildings. These presentations are closely tied to the 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings , and are intended primarily for teaching graduate level structural engineering students.

The two half-day sessions were very well attended with 80 plus attendees each day.

Fall 2006 Workshop New Steel Teaching aid produced for schools of architecture

Development of a Curriculum for Instruction of Structural Steel Topics in College of Architecture

A faculty workshop specifically oriented to architecture faculty was be held in Chicago  on October 11, 2006  The workshop will introduce a very valuable new steel teaching aid produced for schools of architecture.  This teaching aid has two components which will aid educators that teach design studios and also educators that teach lecture courses.

The teaching tools for schools of architecture are designed for the two primary learning environments in a typical curriculum in architectural education, namely, the architectural design studio and the lecture courses.  Obviously, we hope that these tools will be used interchangeably in either environment for purposed of integration and cross-fertilization of knowledge.  Both tools are designed for visual learning and are saturated with images and digital animations.
