In order to design efficient steel moment connections, it requires an understanding of how to appropriately apply code requirements as well as an understanding of the connection behavior under seismic loads. This live webinar will demonstrate strategies for designing efficient moment frame connections, discuss when the AISC Seismic Provisions are required and how to accurately apply the standard.  This presentation will discuss the key differences between ordinary, intermediate and special moment frames with an emphasis on connections.  The general requirements and design procedure presented in AISC 358, the Connection Prequalification Standard will be reviewed, as well as quality control and quality assurance requirements for moment connections.

This AISC live webinar is a presentation on seismic steel moment frame connections and the application of the AISC Seismic Provisions.  The presentation will address the following goals:

  • Develop strategies for selecting moment frame connections.
  • Develop an understanding of the AISC Specification requirements for moment connections when R=3  and the AISC Seismic Provisions requirements when R > 3.
  • Develop a familiarity with the Connection Prequalification Standard (AISC 358)
  • Develop an understanding of the quality control and quality assurance requirements for moment connections.

Registrants will receive:

  • Access to a pdf file of the presentation slides prior to webinar
  • CEU/PDH certificate upon completion of the live webinar
  • Complete instructions for accessing the webinar

Author and Speaker:
