This teaching aid provides three educational modules and follows the development of an innovative structural steel system: Girder-Slab. Students will be introduced to the technical aspects of the system as well as the entrepreneurial side of engineering, as they learn about the research and development required to take the system from an initial concept to the structural market. Each module includes an instructional video (< 15 min), a PowerPoint file, and an accompanying homework assignment. The homework solutions are posted on the AISC Educator Forum.

The modules can be used as part of an undergraduate or graduate steel design course, an undergraduate course in solid mechanics or strength of materials, or a building design course. A homework assignment related to a technical journal article is also included.
