AISC Now Offers Online Technical Seminars
February 11, 2003 From American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc.
The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is now offering a technical seminar online so that users can log on, watch, listen and learn at their own pace in the comfort of their office or home.
The seminar, “Fundamentals of Connection Design,” was authored and is presented by Professor Thomas M. Murray, PE, PhD, Montague-Betts Professor of Civil Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Murray developed this course with the assistance of AISC’s continuing education staff.
This seminar was offered throughout the country in 2001-2002 with more than 1,300 engineers attending and was created to provide an understanding of the behavior, design philosophy and design requirements for common connections in building design projects. The seminar is practice-oriented and focuses on information engineers need to know to design connections or evaluate the connections shown in submittals, in both LRFD and ASD. Other topics covered include shear, moment and bracing connections, as well as connections for tension and compression. The seminar also features “homework problems” for engineers and a printable slide presentation for further study.
To access the seminar, visit www.aisc.org/onlineseminars.htm where users will be prompted to select a password that will allow unlimited access for 30 days. Upon completion of the seminar, users may download an AISC CEU form for 0.4 CEUs or 4.0 PDHs. The seminar is offered on both Broadband and 56K data connections.
“Fundamentals of Connection Design” is available at www.aisc.org/onlineseminars with an introductory cost of $100.00 for AISC members and $150.00 for non-members.
