August 18, 2009 from American Institute of Steel Construction
AISC presents special event in honor of downtown Chicago’s structural steel heritage
(Chicago, IL) – In tribute of the structural steel industry’s continuing progress, the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is hosting a free networking and learning event in Millennium Park on September 18 from noon – 2 pm. It will be one of more than 160 events scheduled in all 50 states for SteelDay; the inaugural national day of awareness and interaction with the structural steel industry.
SteelDay’s Chicago Millennium Park event is a fabulous opportunity for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community, students, universities, and the general public to get valuable hands-on education about structural steel’s sustainable contribution to Chicago’s architecture and economy. Surrounded by some of the city’s famous buildings, guests will have the opportunity to explore several education stations on structural steel and its applications, as well as attend a special presentation on sustainable steel construction. An optional tour of Millennium Park structures will also be available.
“No city in the world has influenced the design and construction of modern buildings more than Chicago, and no material has made a greater contribution in the design and construction of those buildings than structural steel,” commented Chris Moor, AISC industry mobilization director. “Chicago’s Millennium Park is the perfect location to commemorate structural steel’s history and future on SteelDay.”
For a complete schedule on SteelDay’s Chicago Millennium Park event and how to register, please visit www.steelday.org/chicago. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will be offered through registration with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and complimentary lunches will be reserved for the first 300 registrants who arrive prior to 12:30 pm, with a limit of 20 lunches per registered company.
SteelDay is dedicated to providing the AEC community with accessibility to the latest happenings in the structural steel industry. In addition to SteelDay’s Chicago Millennium Park event, steel fabricators, mills, service centers, and other steel facilities throughout the country will open their doors for jobsite and shop tours, educational seminars, and presentations on state-of-the-art industry technologies and products.
