Hirschfeld President Elected to AISC Board

Richard Phillips Appointed to Board of Directors

/uploadedImages/News/Richard Phillips.JPG(Chicago, IL) – The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Phillips to its Board of Directors. Phillips is the President of Hirschfeld Industries – one of the largest fabricators of steel bridges, structural, industrial, and nuclear projects in North America.

Confirmed during AISC’s recent quarterly meeting in Chicago, Phillips will immediately begin serving on the board of directors, assisting with the organization’s planning and leadership in the steel construction industry.

“We’re excited to add Richard to our talented and diverse Board,” commented Roger E. Ferch, P.E., AISC’s president. “He brings strong leadership experience, extensive financial expertise, and a proven track record of taking advantage of innovative growth opportunities. We look forward to his valuable insight and involvement in bettering the marketplace for everyone.”

As President of Hirschfeld Industries, Phillips is responsible for the management of all operating divisions for the company, including financing and human resources. He also oversees all executive-level strategic business decisions, capital positioning, market development, and investment in capital assets. Phillips also serves as CEO of Martifer-Hirschfeld Energy Systems, a partnership with Oliveira de Frades, Portugal-based Martifer Group to manufacture state-of-the-art wind tower systems, where he manages North American operations and supervising wind tower design, production, and shipping.

Phillips initially served as chief financial officer for Hirschfeld Industries when he joined the company in 2004.

“It is such an honor to be elected to an organization that promotes the safety and endurance of steel construction such as the AISC,” said Phillips. “As a member of the board of directors, I look forward to helping advance the prioritization of steel construction throughout the building community.”

Phillips joins 34 AISC board members who contribute a significant amount of time and outstanding service to the success of AISC and the structural steel industry.
