AISC/AISI Sponsor Greenbuild International Conference and Expo as GREENLEEDer
November 10, 2010 from American Institute of Steel Construction
(Chicago, IL) – The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is partnering with the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI) to serve as a GREENLEEDer sponsor at the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) 2010 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green buildings. The conference will take place November 15-20 in Chicago at McCormick Place West, where more than 27,000 building professionals from all over the world will come together to learn about the latest advancements in green building design, construction, financing, and management.
This is the eighth consecutive year that AISC and AISI have partnered to sponsor Greenbuild and represent steel as the green building material of choice at the conference. This year’s sponsorship includes a full-day LEED workshop on Monday, November 15, from 8:30 am - 5 pm, on building design and construction, as well as two half-day educational tours of LEED Platinum certified buildings. The first, on Friday, November 19, includes the Christy Webber GreenWorks Landscapes landscaping complex (a 2008 AISC IDEAS2 award winner), Chicago Center for Green Technology, and Center for Neighborhood Technology; and the second, on Saturday, November 20, highlights Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and focuses on Addressing the Whole Patient: Sustainable Healthcare. This information can be found on the Greenbuild website, www.greenbuildexpo.org, under Education and Tours.
AISC will also provide green transportation to Greenbuild attendees via a biodiesel-powered Chicago trolley bus between the Cermak Road Red Line El station and the convention center from 7 am to 6 pm during the exhibition dates, November 16-18. General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) will keynote this year’s Opening Plenary on Wednesday, November 17, from 8:30 am – 10:30 am.
AISC/AISI will exhibit together again this year, in booth 828. Attendees are encouraged to visit the booth to learn about the sustainable attributes of structural steel and light-gauge steel, steel’s energy and resource savings and its recycling benefits, and the industry’s relationship with the LEED Green Build Rating System. Hear from steel industry experts about why the industry is becoming recognized as one of the best-performing U.S. manufacturing industries by the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).
AISC has had longstanding involvement at Greenbuild in partnership with AISI. AISC/AISI have been exhibiting partners at Greenbuild since 2003 in Pittsburgh; they were the sole sponsor of the Opening Reception from 2004 to 2009 and were Silver sponsors from 2005 to 2007 and Gold sponsors in 2008 and 2009.
Known for its emphasis on sustainable building construction, Chicago is a popular place for Greenbuild, having also played host to the show in November 2007 at McCormick Place West. The 2.3 million-sq.-ft McCormick Place West, which opened in August 2007, uses 30,000 tons of recycled structural steel fabricated by AISC Member and AISC Certified Fabricator Prospect Steel Company, Little Rock, Ark.
