(Chicago, IL) - The structural steel industry’s largest networking and educational function returns for a seventh successive year on Friday, September 25, and offers new ways to get involved. SteelDay, a national day of outreach and celebration hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and its members and partners, provides free opportunities to learn about the fascinating work and accomplishments of the U.S. structural steel industry. In addition to steel facility and job site tours where you can see various facets of the industry and its innovative projects first-hand, this year’s SteelDay features exciting online activities created specially for designers.

Journey through recent advancements in steel design and construction by signing up for AISC’s free Lunch & Learn webinar, “Steel and the Phantasmagoria,” which will be shown at noon on SteelDay in each of the contiguous U.S. time zones. Charlie Carter, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., AISC’s vice president and chief structural engineer, will take you on a virtual voyage through ingenious solutions that have resulted in great buildings, and you’ll gain an insight into the wealth of information available to help you tame the phantasmagoria. SteelDay will also mark the premiere of AISC’s new video “Architecturally Exposed,” a captivating documentary on the art and science of architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS), featuring Terri Meyer Boake, B.E.S., B.Arch., M.Arch., LEED AP, professor of architecture at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. The documentary will be available for free online streaming and downloading beginning on SteelDay.
