Design Guide 20 addresses the history and design of steel plate shear walls. The guide includes design procedures and design examples for steel plate shear walls in both high-seismic and R = 3 applications. The design guide has been developed in accordance with ASCE 7-05 (Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures), ANSI/AISC 360-05 (Specification for Structural Steel Buildings), and ANSI/AISC 341-05 (Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings). Analytical and capacity-design methods presented in this design guide can be utilized with either LRFD or ASD load combinations. Only the LRFD method is used in the design examples.
