Chief Technical Officer

Michael P. Culmo, PE, is a bridge engineer with over 34 years of experience in the design and construction of bridges, and has been responsible for directing a structures and transportation design department for new expressway bridges, bridge rehabilitation, and related highway structures.  He has special expertise in the field of accelerated bridge construction technologies and steel bridges.  He is the principal investigator for NCHRP Project 12-102, which included the development of the 2017 AASHTO Guide Specifications for Accelerated Bridge Construction.  He is also the principal investigator for NCHRP Project 12-98, which included the development of the Guidelines for Prefabricated Bridge Elements and Systems Tolerances and the Guidelines for Dynamic Effects for Bridge Systems (both published in 2018).  Mr. Culmo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Structural Engineering, both from the University of Connecticut.  He is a licensed professional engineer.
