Orders are shipped via UPS ground service from the Baltimore, MD area. In general, shipping charges are not refundable.

Undeliverable Orders

Orders that are returned due to incorrect or incomplete shipping addresses, orders that are refused upon delivery (including orders refused due to non-payment of customs fees), or orders that are returned because of failed delivery attempts will not be refunded upon their return to AISC.

U.S.-based parcel forwarding services are another option to investigate. These services provide a U.S. address from which your parcels are forwarded to your home country. AISC prides itself on making a vast array of structural steel design, detailing and construction resources available online. Our specifications, codes, standards, design guides and the Detailing Manual, 3rd Ed., are all available for download through this website. Much of this site's content is free to the public or available for purchase in digital format, and even more is free to our members. 

Our flagship publication, the Steel Construction Manual, 15th Ed., is available as an online digital subscription product--a web-based, searchable flipbook. While this product fills a need for some, there are some larger enterprises looking for a more robust solution to provide:

AISC cannot provide these services. To meet this need, AISC's technical content is available through independent electronic reference services. AISC offers a generous 50% discount off the price of its publications to its members, subject to the limitations outlined below.

General Member Quantity Limits

Individuals covered by an AISC membership are limited to purchasing two (2) of any single publication at the discounted member price for personal use. Additional items purchased for personal use must be purchased at the full price.

Firm/Company Quantity Limits

Purchases at member prices for firms are governed by the firm's membership category and the number of members at the firm. In general, firms may purchase up to two (2) copies of each AISC publication for every one (1) member at their firm. Full and Associate membership categories are not subject to quantity limits. To purchase more than two copies of a publication, send your request via email to grubb@aisc.org. We will verify quantity limits and pricing and provide you with a quote.

Violations of Quantity Limits

Individual violations of AISC's per-person member price quantity limits will result in the automatic cancellation and recall of the order(s). Any refund(s) due will be reduced in the amount of $50 per order or the cost of retrieving the order(s), whichever is greater. Repeated violations may result in termination of membership privileges or notification of improper conduct to the firm's primary membership contact.

If you place an order in error, contact us as soon as possible. We may be able to cancel the order and provide a full refund, including shipping charges.

If the order has been packaged for shipping, it is subject to a $15 cancellation fee. If it has not been collected by the shipper, shipping charges will be refunded. If the order is in transit and can be recalled, shipping charges will not be refunded.

If the order cannot be recalled in transit, the normal return process applies.

Even with today's technology and modern quality checks, errors occasionally occur in the printing of our publications. We apologize in advance if your publication was affected.

What to Look For

Because of the quanity of manuals printed, its thickness, and its unique thin paper, a handful of defective manuals may elude our standard quality checks. Here are the most common issues we've encountered over the years.

Ink problems: Occasionally a copy will be missing a portion of the blue, green or black ink on several pages that are fairly closely spaced. If you notice an issue, check the entire table.

Missing pages: Also rare, missing pages (or duplicate pages) occur in large blocks of 16, 32, or 64 pages—the building blocks of the manual—when the binding machinery either misses a signature or grabs two of the same one.

Stuck pages: If the corner of a page is bent prior to the the trimming process, the end result can be something of a practical joke, like the greeting card that cannot be opened because all edges are sealed. Sometimes it's just a matter of gently slitting apart a few pages at the corner. This is usually obvious by looking for discontinuities along the edges of the closed book.

Wonky thumb cuts: It may be the 21st century, but those handy thumb cuts are still cut into the book by hand and those black labels are applied by hand, just like they were in 1924 for the very first manual. Occasionally the labels are misplaced or crooked or have other issues. These are usually obvious by looking along the edge of the closed book.

What to Do

If your publication is defective and you have purchased the publication within the past year, email orders@aisc.org with a photograph of the defect along with your order details. Depending on the situation, we will arrange to have a replacement publication sent to you along with a return label for the defective one. We can only replace defective publications with the same edition, and we can only do so if we still have copies in inventory.

Returns

Canceling Orders/Changing Your Mind After Ordering

Placing an order incurs costs to AISC. Canceled orders are subject to a $15 cancellation fee. Orders canceled while in transit are subject to a $25 cancellation fee. Shipping charges will not be refunded for orders that are in transit.

No student may purchase more than one copy of any publication through the Student Manual Discount Program. Repeated violations will result in the notification of the student's professor and/or the educational institution.

Book resellers must pre-register in order to receive reseller privileges. Sales tax exemptions require acceptable documentation.

Requesting a Pro-Forma

Pre-registered resellers may email order information (the publication title, quantity, shipping information, contact name, contact email, and contact phone number) to orders@aisc.org. You will receive a proforma invoice to review and pay. Resellers do not receive reseller privileges for orders placed online. No adjustments/refunds will be made after payment, including sales tax refunds.

Policies

Book resellers must be business entities based in the United States whose primary business is the purchase and sale of publications.

Companies with book reseller status receive a 25% discount off of AISC's current non-member prices for printed (hard-copy) products. Book resellers may not purchase or resell downloadable, electronic, or subscription products.

Companies not eligible for book reseller status may purchase publications at AISC's current non-member prices.

AISC may revoke or deny book reseller status based on current or previous abuse of our purchasing, payment or return policies by a book reseller or its parent corporate entity.

All orders must be paid in advance by credit card, check, or wire transfer prior to shipping.

Orders must have a valid U.S. shipping address.

Returns

Only manuals (Steel Construction Manual, Seismic Design Manual, and Detailing for Steel Construction) are eligible for returns from book resellers. Returns received within 30 days of the original order are eligible for a refund, less shipping costs.

No refunds will be issued for returns received more than 30 days after the original order date.

Shrink-wrapped publications must remain shrink-wrapped to be eligible for return. Non-shrink-wrapped publications must be in unmarked, undamaged, resaleable condition to be eligible for return.

AISC reserves the right to update or change these policies at any time. 

All orders must be prepaid. Orders placed online using a credit card are automatically considered to be prepaid.

Credit Cards

We use PayPal as our credit card processor, and you will receive a PayPal-branded receipt for your credit card transaction that lists American Institute of Steel Construction as the merchant. In addition, you should receive an itemized receipt generated by this website.

Charges and credits will appear on your credit card statement as PayPal *AISC 402-935-7733 IL. A PayPal account is not required to use this site.

Checks and Wire Transfers

To pay for your order by check or wire transfer, you must place your order over the phone or via email to orders@aisc.org. We will create a proforma invoice (a quote). You will submit a copy of the proforma invoice with your payment, and your order will ship after the payment has cleared.

Checks - may take up to two weeks to clear.

Wire Transfers - may take up to one week to clear, depending on the country of origin.

Please include a memo line indicating "publications order" somewhere on your wire transfer.
