Advances in the Design Code & AASHTO Design Code Compared to International Codes [B26]

Circular reinforced-concrete-filled steel tubes are growing in popularity and are the topic of the first presentation of this session, summarizing findings from project NCHRP-12-93 on when the contribution of steel casing to the structural resistance can be taken into account in shaft foundations of bridges. In a second presentation focusing on truss bridges, member resistances calculated using the AASHTO design code the Eurocode, and the Canadian bridge design code will be compared, to examine which provisions seem most adrift and what assumptions underlie the differences.
