Design and Behavior of Cross Frames in Straight and Curved Steel I-Girder Bridges [B11]

Cross frames in steel bridges sometimes take second place to the girders in the design and fabrication process. However, they are a very important part of a project and should be considered as such. This session will discuss the behavior of cross frames from the perspective of fatigue-induced forces as well as criteria for adaquate stability bracing. It will also provide an overview of NCHRP12-113, which focuses on the design and behavior of cross frames in steel bridges.
