High Strength Steel in the Wild [E1]

Construction projects are inherently challenging. They require not only coordination and communication among stakeholders of varying backgrounds and expertise but also the continuous awareness and allegiance to the priorities of owners and developers. Historically, for the structural engineer, efficiency - in terms of weight and cost - of their design solution was paramount on that list. Nowadays, and looking into the future, new challenges are rising to the top, among them sustainability, robustness, and resilience.

To overcome these challenges, it is time for engineers to tame the wild frontier of high-strength steels. This session will focus on the first steps of this process: enlightening attendees about the present state-of-the-art solutions, heightening their awareness of commonalities and differences among products and materials, showcasing the frequency at which these innovations are already being used, and outlining the processes to anticipate when integrating new materials into a project.
