Seismic Design of Ductile Special Concentrically Braced Frames
This lecture covers the basics of the design of concentrically braced steel frames following U.S. and Canadian design codes. A step-by-step outline of the seismic design process, as well as the relevant capacity design principles, is presented. The focus is first set on traditional construction techniques and connection details that are currently used in practice or are being proposed as improvements to current practice. Recent developments in the design of braced frames are also presented, including cast steel connectors and a new middle-cast steel link element designed to enhance ductility and energy absorption.
This course is based on a past NASCC session.
