Seismic Performance of Double-Skin Composite Walls with Recycled Aggregate Concrete Infill and Corrugated Faceplates

Corrugated steel plate shear walls with vertical openings is a new type of lateral load-resisting system, which consists of a steel boundary frame and a vertically corrugated wall plate, with opening in the middle or on both side of the wall, all through the story height. It has the advantages of simpler construction, fulfillment of architectural function and convenient adjustment of structural performance, as well as good seismic performance. Four 1:3 scale two-story single-bay corrugated steel plate shear wall specimens were tested under cyclic lateral loads, one without opening, one with gaps on both sides, one with openings on both sides, and one with opening in the middle, and the gaps and openings were all through the story height. Failure modes and cyclic behavior of the specimens were presented and discussed. Influence of the opening size, opening location and end plates at the free edges of the wall on system seismic performance were studied. Test results shown that all specimens exhibited excellent seismic performance, with high lateral stiffness and capacity, stable cyclic post-buckling performance, and ductility in the range of 4.67 to 6.12. Compared with the specimen with no opening, the other three specimens had a strength reduction of 13%, 26% and 14%, and stiffness reduction of 20%, 27% and 33% respectively With the same opening ratio, lateral stiffness of the specimen with openings on both sides had higher lateral strength and ductility, but 8% lower stiffness. Welding end plates to the free edges of corrugated wall panels improved the load-carrying efficiency distinctively. Recommendations on seismic design of corrugated steel plate shear walls connected with beams only were also proposed.
