Steel Structures in Fire: New Approaches for Modeling and Analysis

Evaluating the stability of steel structures under fire-induced thermal loads is challenging. When the system components are subjected to high temperatures and steep non-uniform thermal gradients; connections and members are often required to resist large compressive forces induced by restraint against thermal expansion; followed by large deflections; rotations; axial deformations and/or potential destabilization. This session will present reduced-order modeling approaches to enable modeling of large systems under fire conditions.
