Keeping up with the ever-increasing sophistication of seismic design codes such as the International Building Code and AISC Seismic Provisions has been a major challenge to designers. While seismic codes get updated frequently, the basic design philosophies remain the same. An understanding of these underlying concepts will help designers to use these codes properly.
