Part 1 will touch on common problems confronted by stairway designers and focus on structural issues related to gravity loads. Topics will include:

- Code requirements specific to stairways for gravity loading, as defined by the IBC and OSHA
- Steel stairway member and connection design
- Design examples
Part 2 – Seismic Loads & Delegated Design (5/21/2020)
In Part 2, the focus will shift to issues related to lateral loads, especially seismic demands. Topics will include:

- Code requirements specific to stairways for seismic loading, as per the IBC and ASCE 7
- Delegated design considerations
- Coordination between project team members: stair designer and architect, engineer of record, detailer, fabricator, and erector
- Design examples
