Crane Selection and Application

This teaching aid is intended for use in construction classes to teach the principles that govern crane selection. The major types of cranes are described and the critical selection criteria are outlined. The capabilities of two cranes, as they are applied to steel erection, are described in detail along with interactive macros to study crane capacity. Detailed examples are developed for evaluating a crane's ability to complete the erection of a four-story building. Issues involved in selecting the most economical crane for a job are addressed. Jobsite management issues including safety, rigging, and foundations are also covered. The PowerPoint presentation includes extensive interactive macros.
