AISC presented Columbus, Ohio, Mayor, Michael B. Coleman and members of the project team of the Hilton Columbus Downtown High Street Bridge with its 2015 IDEAS2 Award for excellence in steel-frame building design yesterday, at which time the bridge was also dedicated in Mayor Coleman’s honor. The bridge connects the Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel with the Columbus convention center.

The dedication of the skybridge in Mayor Coleman’s name was a surprise by city officials. In his comments at the ceremonies, Coleman said that he initially did not want yet another skybridge in downtown Columbus. But, he said, if there needed to be another skybridge, that it had to be one with some “swagger” and “it had to be a work or art.” He vetoed the first three designs before approving the existing IDEAS2 Award winning design.
