Time-Lapse Video Captures Braves’ Stadium Construction

The Atlanta Braves and EarthCam have released a time-lapse video documenting the two-year construction of SunTrust Park. The 90-second video shows each stage of construction of the new ballpark, which hosted the Braves’ home opener last month.

The project used approximately 6,800 tons of steel, fabricated by Hirschfeld Industries (an AISC member and certified fabricator). Laid end-to-end, the steel would stretch for 50 miles.

The stadium’s intimate arrangement of 41,500 seats is designed to maximize sightlines. The ballpark features three main decks with the middle and upper decks cantilevered over each lower deck to bring all seats closer to the action. It also includes an extensive canopy (approximately three times larger than most ballparks) and several indoor spaces and clubs.
