AISC and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP (SOM) are offering a free online forum, “Your Next Project Considering Steel & Timber Research for Residential Buildings,” this Friday, November 17, at noon CT.
Mid- and high-rise residential buildings represent a significant portion of the building market, and the design and engineering of these buildings has unique constraints not found in offices or other commercial construction. Structural steel frames have many benefits that can complement residential construction such as prefabrication and speed of construction. These characteristics are similar to emerging technologies such as cross-laminated timber. AISC and SOM have partnered to study the combination of these materials as they relate to the challenges of residential construction. This online forum will cover the motivations of the research and framing concepts for residential construction.
