Steel Structure Trivia: Going the Extra Yard

Thanksgiving is next week, a holiday traditionally filled with family, food and football. The day’s slate of games includes the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Los Angeles Charges at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. This monumental stadium, which opened in 2009, boasts the largest single-span roof structure in the world and features a 256-ft-wide by 410-ft-long retractable roof opening. Our November Steel Structure Trivia question is:

How many square feet is AT&T Stadium’s roof structure?

Answer:

AT&T Stadium’s roof structure is 660,800 sq. ft. For more about the project, see the article “Going Long” from our December 2008 issue. Congratulations to our contest winner, Nep Viajar, a civil/structural engineer with Fluor Corp., Houston!

You can test your structural steel knowledge right here on our MSC website on the last Friday of each month, where a new trivia question will be posted to the News section. Due to the holidays, our next challenge will be posted on Friday, December 15.
