The Steel Joist Institute is presenting a webinar, “Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders,” on Wednesday, October 18, from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. (ET), followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
The first of a two-part series, this webinar parallels SJI’s Technical Digest No. 12. Presenters will discuss and demonstrate the methods to first evaluate existing open web steel joists and joist girders for revised loading conditions. Learning objectives include identifying the key characteristics of in-place joists; determining who the original manufacturer was and whether they can provide any additional documentation; verifying the original design loads and evaluating the joist for the new loads; and discussing procedures to identify the joist components and connections that are inadequate.
