The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) recently bestowed long-time volunteer, John (Jack) Metcalfe, with its 2017 William Davis Service Award at the annual SEAA convention in Greensboro, N.C. in April.
Metcalfe’s accomplishments and positions include, past president of the National Institute of Steel Detailing; volunteer for the SEAA Board of Directors; NISD’s liaison to SEAA; and being the impetus behind the SEAA/NISD Detailing Guide.
Metcalfe recently retired from John Metcalfe Co. and now runs a small consulting business. He has served several terms on SEAA’s Board of Directors. In addition, he is co-author of the SEAA/NISD Erection Safety Manual.
The William Davis Service Award is given to individuals who exhibit a lifetime commitment to serving the steel construction industry. The award is the SEAA’s highest honor, presented in memory of William Davis, who held board and committee positions for nearly 20 years through the 1980s and 1990s.
