The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) recently presented 17 projects the 2018 Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Award. After deciding between 110 versatile bridges, buildings and sculptures, the judges chose the winners based on durability, longevity and sustainability of the hot-dip galvanized coating. The competition recognizes the special skills and efforts of galvanizers, fabricators, architects, engineers, contractors and all other project team members and projects that “utilize after-fabrication hot-dip galvanized steel in an ideal, creative, monumental, or otherwise impressive fashion,” said AGA.
The Most Distinguished award was bestowed to the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in Tarrytown, New York, which used more than 59,000 tons of hot-dip galvanized reinforcing steel in structural and ancillary elements. Three AISC/NSBA member fabricators—High Steel Structures, Hirschfeld Industries and Canam-Bridges—provided more than 110,000 tons of structural steel for the project.
