AISC Participates in National Rebuilding Together Day

Throughout the month of April, thousands of volunteers nationwide, including businesses, faith-based organizations and leadership groups, donated materials and collaborated on providing critical home improvements at no cost to recipients. The month of giving and restoring culminated on April 28 for National Rebuilding Day, and AISC, who has participated for the past 16 years, revitalized two homes in Bellwood, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

AISC staff and a team of plumbers led by Eric Bolin, AISC staff engineer, participated by installing new light fixtures and a ceiling fan; remodeling the bathroom with a new vanity, toilet and wall storage; installing two new stair railings; painting and weather stripping the front door, and a variety of other projects.

Jonathan Tavarez, AISC staff engineer, was the house captain for the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) where the team fixed everything from doorbells to door handles and light fixtures to plumbing, painted, and cleaned up the yard.

Rebuilding Together started in 1973 with a small group of people in Midland, Texas, refreshing homes in their community. Over the past 45 years, it has expanded into a nonprofit community that’s worked with more than 100,000 volunteers, and currently rehabilitates about 10,000 homes a year.
