Celebrate SteelDay with ‘Birth of the Steel Skyscraper’ Webinar

The steel “skeletal” skyscraper was born in late 19th century Chicago (home to AISC headquarters) and has since influenced the designs of hundreds of thousands of high-rises worldwide.

“Birth of the Steel Skyscraper” will take you back in time to everything that preceded the innovative technology, from the conditions to engineering role to the solutions. The course will highlight the lesser-known but highly esteemed John Wellborn Root, architect and business partner of famed Chicago architect Daniel Burnham.

Root was one of the first to promote the new technologies of steel-frame construction in commercial buildings and to pioneer structural steel technologies. He is also credited with being one of the founders of the Chicago School of architectural style.

The webinar will be presented by Benjamin Schafer, a professor at Johns Hopkins University.

The free webinar will be presented on SteelDay, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Register here.
