Gregory G. Deierlein and Jonathan Humble Receive Industry Recognition

Gregory G. Deierlein, PhD, PE, was recently named a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a high honor among civil engineers.

A member of the AISC Specification Committee, Deierlein is a professor and director of the J.A. Blume Earthquake Engineering Center at Stanford University. He is well known for his research on steel and concrete composite structural systems, nonlinear structural analysis, and performance-based earthquake engineering. In the 1990s, he led the Building Seismic Safety Council’s development of provisions for the seismic design of composite structures that were adopted by AISC.

Deierlein will be inducted as an ASCE Distinguished Member on October 11, 2019, at ASCE's Convention in Miami. He is a previous recipient of AISC's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jonathan Humble, FAIA, was recently recognized with both the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Committee Service Award.

Humble is the regional director of construction codes and standards for the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) where he has served for over 20 years. He received the Distinguished Service Award at the ASHRAE Annual Conference on June 22, 2019. The award recognizes members "who have served the Society faithfully and with distinction on committees or have otherwise given freely of their time and talent on behalf of the Society."

NFPA recognized Humble for his contributions to its Codes and Standards Making System at the NFPA Conference & Expo on June 20, 2019.

"Jonathan has willingly shared his expertise on building code development and issues impacting the codes with other associations with the objective to advance building performance. His contributions are valued by AISI and its partner organizations," said Jay Larson, PE, managing director of AISI’s Construction Technical Program.
