On October 28, AISC hosted a workshop at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's (CTBUH) 10th World Congress in Chicago. Tabitha Stine, AISC's vice president of market development, opened the session, which focused on advances in steel. Ron Klemencic, chairman and CEO of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, spoke about Speedcore and its innovative use in Seattle's Rainier Square Tower. Shelly Finnigan, global technical sales engineer and head of technical sales and marketing with ArcelorMittal, and Terri Meyer Boake, an architecture professor at the University of Waterloo, rounded out the session with presentations on steel innovations.
AISC also hosted a social event, in partnership with CTBUH, at its headquarters in the (steel-framed) One Pru (One Prudential Plaza), providing office tours and a brief history of the building. Attendees gathered for appetizers and drinks and were treated to discussions with Sherwin Asrow, who designed the lateral system for the tower when it was built in 1955.
