Free Webinar: Bridging Research and Practice to Go Beyond the Specification

More than any other material, steel inspires big design ideas--so big that sometimes they exceed the scope of the Specification for Structural Steel Buildings.

Smart firms call on the research community when that happens.

"Designers, fabricators, and researchers are all at the forefront of steel innovation," says Christopher Raebel, AISC's new vice president of engineering and research. "Great things can happen when they work together to solve problems and confirm that creative design solutions actually work--and, as a bonus, these projects can build connections between exceptional students and firms looking for a new generation of talented thinkers."

Raebel would know--he's been personally involved in several such partnerships. He will share what he's learned in a free master class in collaborative innovation at 12:30 p.m. Central on October 21.

Participants can earn 1.0 PDH for attending this webinar.

The webinar is part of SteelDay, the national celebration of America's structural steel industry and the people who design and build a sustainable, resilient, durable future every day. SteelDay 2022 includes events around the country as well as AISC's Flash Steel Conference, which offers 10 PDHs for half-hour sessions that get right to the point and give you the information you need quickly. Learn about connections, A.I. in building design, the future of steel, how to prepare the next generation of engineers, and so much more. The Flash Conference takes place October 18 to 20, 2022.

About Christopher Raebel

Raebel spent 12 years practicing at firms that specialize in commercial, residential, and industrial structural design before switching over to academia. He served as chair of the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), where he was also director of the Architectural Engineering Program. He succeeds Larry Kruth at AISC; Kruth is retiring at the end of the year.
