A draft of the next edition of the AISC Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic Applications (AISC 358) is now available for public review and comment.
The next edition of AISC 358, currently slated for a 2027 release, will supersede ANSI/AISC 358-22.
This draft includes:
- General updates to bolting requirements in applicable chapters.
- Chapter 6 (End Plate) updates to the bolt shear and bearing/tearout check to be consistent with the AISC Specification. The welding requirements for moderately ductile built-up sections have also been updated to alleviate the susceptibility to brittle fracture.
- Chapter 10 (ConXtech ConXL) updates to the collar bolt specification and other miscellaneous updates.
- Chapter 12 (Simpson Strong-Tie) and Chapter 15 (DuraFuse Frames) updates that expand each connection’s prequalification limits.
The draft will be available as a free download at aisc.org/publicreview between September 9 and October 21, 2024. If you’d prefer to review a hard copy, please contact Martin Downs at downs@aisc.org; there is a $35 nominal charge for printed copies.
Please submit comments using the form provided online or by email to Margaret Matthew (matthew@aisc.org) by October 21, 2024, for consideration.
