Huntington Convention Center

Building a new convention center ballroom meant removing crucial support columns from an existing frame--and a steel solution made it possible!

Cleveland’s Huntington Convention Center outgrew its original footprint, and the venue’s operators identified an attached four-story building as the ideal expansion space.

Visit aisc.org/delicate-dance to find out how the project team replaced four exterior columns--whose combined load accounted for nearly a quarter of the entire building’s weight--with new multi-story transfer trusses, ensuring a column-free ballroom.

Get an even closer look at the new trusses before the ballroom’s construction with our puzzle of the week above!
