Lindemann Performing Arts Center

Lindemann Performing Arts Center

Two-in-one? It’s been done. The main hall of Brown University's brand-new performing arts center transforms into any of FOUR spaces: a concert hall, a recital hall, a theater, or even an immersive media cube!

The Lindemann Performing Arts Center is a "floating box" whose roof trusses support four-story moveable side gantries and retractable acoustic ceiling panels, all of which physically and acoustically shape the room. This kind of versatility allows one space to accommodate performances ranging from large orchestras to small recitals.

Get a closer look at the hall's side and rear gantries with this digital jigsaw puzzle. Dive deeper into the work architect REX and structural engineers Odeh Engineers (a member of WSP), Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA), and Threshold Acoustics took to create the unprecedented design at aisc.org/frame-of-reference.
