March 25, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHICAGO - Larry W. Jeffords, CEO of Jeffords Steel and Engineering Company and a former member of the American Institute of Steel Construction’s Board of Directors, died of cancer at age 73 earlier this year.
“Larry was a key contributor in our industry, both locally and in the national activities of AISC,” said AISC President Charles J. Carter, SE, PE, PhD. “His broad background as both an engineer and CEO of his fabrication company helped AISC's Board make our work for fabricators and engineers much better and more meaningful.”
Larry served on the Board from 2004 to 2011.
Larry and his wife, Judy, established Jeffords Steel the day after their wedding in 1985, with Larry as CEO until his death. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer for Vermont Structural Steel and as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he was involved in bridge construction in Vietnam. Larry held a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Norwich University, where he served as a trustee.
