New Edition of Floor Vibrations Design Guide Now Available

(Chicago, IL) - The second edition of AISC’s Design Guide 11: Floor Vibrations Due To Human Activity is now available. The updated guide expands on the original version with new material on the response of structural systems that support human activity including floors, monumental stairs and balconies. It includes modifications to tolerance limits, updated methods for evaluating high frequency systems and problem floors, as well as refinements to the use of the finite element method to analyze load actions caused by human activity.
The main purpose of the guide is to supply practical information for designers to assess floor vibration serviceability. This 130-page resource, written by Thomas M. Murray, Ph.D., P.E., David E. Allen, Ph.D., Eric E. Ungar, Sc.D., P.E., and Brad D. Davis, Ph.D., S.E., covers a wide spectrum of topics including floor vibration analysis, resonance and human tolerance criteria.
