Bracing Connections and Related Topics Seminar

This seminar begins with a discussion of basic principles. Most connection design is based on first principles, without the aid of complex computer models and with little codification.  This module will address the three basic principles of structural mechanics: equilibrium, constitutive equations (limit states), and compatibility.  The seminar then discusses the Uniform Force Method procedure as detailed in the 14th Edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual.  Next, advantages and disadvantage of three different types of common bracing details will be discussed.  Then, the various steps and methodologies used for bracing connection design in high seismic areas will be presented through an in-depth design example.  The seminar concludes with discussions on bracing connections to column bases, slip-critical connections and filler development.
