Fabricated by The Herrick Corporation (AISC Member, AISC Certified)The San Diego Central Courthouse, designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill LLP, serves as an important civic landmark in downtown San Diego, California. The 700,000-square-feet, 25-story building is comprised of 72 courtrooms, business offices, a jury assembly hall and holding facilities. The building presents a bold, iconic and beautiful image of a civic building. It addresses the security needs of the court while strengthening the public realm and presenting an uplifting and welcoming image. It communicates through its architecture a sense of solidity, dignity and permanence. The building celebrates the unique light of San Diego with a canopy both functional and symbolic, providing the building with a unique civic identity along the city skyline. On the inside, the project offers a significant, functional and representational civic space.
