Steel Shots: Building the Kings’ Crown

A drone recently visited Schuff Steel’s Stockton, Calif., plant for a look at the second steel box truss being assembled for the roof of NBA Sacramento Kings’ Golden 1 Center arena. Each truss is 15 ft tall and 340 ft long. See Golden 1 Center’s drone tour from the plant.

Schuff Steel in Stockton, Calif. (an AISC Member/AISC Certified fabricator) is fabricating the main steel truss assemblies that will support the roof of downtown Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center arena, the future home of the NBA Sacramento Kings. The two 52-ton roof trusses are each 15 ft tall and 340 ft long. For transportation, each truss is split into three sections and delivered to a nearby paint site before arriving at the arena construction site. One piece of the trusses has already arrived at the construction site and five more pieces will arrive between today and the end of August. The $507 million arena is scheduled to open in October 2016.
