Thomas J. Wysockey, chairman emeritus of Thatcher Foundations Inc., Gary, Ind.

The Deep Foundations Institute Educational Trust has announced the second annual Thomas J. Wysockey Scholarship Fundraising Dinner will be held on July 16 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Union League Club of Chicago. All proceeds from the dinner benefit the Thomas Wysockey Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund, which provides financial awards to deserving civil engineering students pursuing a career in the deep foundations industry.

The guest speaker for the dinner is Joseph G. Burns, P.E., S.E., CEng, FAIA, RIBA, LEED AP, managing principal at Thornton Tomasetti. Burns is an advocate for the deeper integration of architecture and engineering, which he promotes through technical innovation in the design of structural systems, collaboration in practice and leadership in building science education. With more than 30 years of experience, Burns specializes in the design of complex structural systems, including earthquake engineering and dynamic analysis.

The Thomas Wysockey Civil Engineering Scholarship was established last year with a donation of $50,000 from Thatcher Foundations Inc., Gary, Ind., which is part of a $100,000 total pledge from the company. Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who are attending any accredited U.S. college or university, are eligible to apply. Applicants with a military background will be given special consideration.
