A replica of President Lincoln’s funeral hearse almost missed its entrance. The 3,600-lb hearse, created for a May 2 funeral reenactment in Springfield, Ill., marking the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's burial, was constructed in California and Arizona, then trucked to Springfield. But by the time of the event, it was discovered that the hearse did not have the right support to hold together for the funeral procession from downtown Springfield to Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The hearse was taken to Springfield-based Selvaggio Steel, Inc. (an AISC Member/Certified fabricator) where workers engineered, fabricated and installed the steel repairs needed to make the hearse useable in time for the funeral procession.
