Steel Structure Trivia: Name That Bridge

This steel stringer (or multi-beam) bridge, photographed last week by one of our AISC staffers, opened in 1973. The year before, it was named one of the top 10 outstanding engineering achievements in the nation by the National Society of Professional Engineers. The main span of the bridge is 600 ft long and accommodates 10 lanes of traffic across a shipping channel.

Your May Steel Structure Trivia question is two-fold: What is a) the name of this bridge and b) where is it located?

Answer:

The answer is a) The Sidney Sherman Bridge in b) Houston. Congratulations to our sole winner: Mark Sencich, VDC manager - Western Division, Schuff Steel Company, San Diego (an AISC Member/Certified fabricator)!

You can test your steel structure knowledge right here on our MSC website on the last Friday of each month, where a new trivia question will be posted to the News section. Our next question will be posted on Friday, June 26 at noon CDT.
