This year’s national SteelDay is scheduled for September 30, but construction of the new Marriott Marquis Chicago hotel is moving so quickly that the opportunity to see its steel framing can’t wait! So on Friday, August 12, you’re invited to attend a lunch presentation and tour of the project site.

Opening next year, the 50-story hotel will feature more than 1,200 rooms, two 25,000-sq.-ft ballrooms and over 90,000 sq. ft of meeting space. Attendees will discover how the hotel’s trusses were set in one piece, see the 190-ft-long pedestrian bridge that connects hotel to the McCormick Place convention center over Cermack Avenue and also get a sneak peek at the adjacent DePaul University basketball arena, which is also currently under construction. Before the tour, attendees will receive a complimentary lunch and hear from the project team of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, LeJeune Steel Co. (an AISC member/certified fabricator), Chicago Steel Construction LLC, and Clark Construction as they give a brief presentation on the unique challenges of the project and how using steel has met those challenges.

The event begins with the lunch presentation at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Attendees will then walk to the project site for the tour at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to the first 200 participants who register, and the deadline to register is noon on Monday, August 8. You can register here

The event serves as a preview of the exciting events scheduled to take place across the country during SteelDay on September 30. SteelDay is an annual event sponsored by AISC and hosted by its members and partners, celebrating structural steel.
