The doodle celebrates what would’ve been the 88th birthday of Fazlur Rahman Khan, the structural engineer and architect who was famous for pioneering tubular design in high-rise buildings. He also designed two of Chicago’s most iconic (and tallest) steel-framed buildings: Sears Tower (since renamed the Willis Tower) and the John Hancock Center.
