ASCE Seeks Committee Members for New Standard

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is seeking new committee members for review of the new edition of the standard, Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7). The revision cycle will begin in September.

Ronald O. Hamburger, SE, PE, senior principal at Simpson Gumpertz Heger, will chair the 2022 cycle. He will pursue practical means to simplify the standard from the user’s perspective, while assuring that it remains a state-of-the-art design loading standard. He will also engage the profession at large in the standards development process, including younger engineers. Young professionals interested in serving on ASCE 7 committees may apply to participate in the SEI CSAD-YP program, which is a funded opportunity.

Anyone with a strong desire to contribute to further development of the ASCE 7 standard is welcome to apply for membership to the committee. Practicing engineers, researchers, building officials, contractors and construction product representatives are all needed and welcome. Individuals with broad knowledge of structural engineering or limited focus on a particular practice area or expertise can make significant contributions.

Those interested in applying for the committee may submit an application by September 30, 2017, via the online form at www.asce.org/structural-engineering/sei-codes-and-standards-committee-application.
