The Steel Joist Institute is presenting part one of its two-part webinar "Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders" next Wednesday, October 17, from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
This webinar parallels the SJI publication Technical Digest No. 12. Presenters will discuss and demonstrate methods to evaluate existing open web steel joists and joist girders for revised loading conditions.
During this course, attendees will learn how to:
- Identify the key characteristics of in-place joists
- Determine the original manufacturer and whether they can provide any additional documentation
- Verify the original design loads and evaluate the joist for new loads
- Identify the joist components and connections that are inadequate
