Picasso may use a paintbrush, but these women prefer a welding torch when it comes to art. The American Welding Society's (AWS) newest project celebrates welding as a creative profession. Its "Arc 2 Art" series follows two welding and fabricating artists "Barbie the Welder" and Stephanie Hoffman as they create a sculpture depicting the Statue of Liberty with a welding torch, helmet, and code book. The welders will create video diaries throughout the project so you can follow along on AWS's Facebook page.
"We're using this platform to capture the attention and imaginations of our younger generations, so they learn that welding careers can also be a form of creative and artistic expression, and just as lucrative as other professions," said Monica Pfarr of the AWS Foundation.
