MKA’s Ron Klemencic Wins 2023 ASCE Henry L. Michel Award

Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA) CEO Ron Klemencic received a prestigious award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) this month.

ASCE presented Klemencic with the 2023 Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research at its annual conference Oct. 20 in Chicago. The organization recognized Klemencic for his leadership roles at the MKA Foundation and the Charles Pankow Foundation, which support the research and development of innovative advancements in the built environment’s design and construction. Klemencic has been with MKA since 1992.

The award also recognizes his work in advancing several industry innovations, as he has championed performance-based seismic design, performance-based wind design, SpeedCore, and the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator.

Klemencic was a guest on the December 2022 edition of the Field Notes podcast and was featured in the Field Notes column in the December 2022 issue of Modern Steel Construction.

The Michel Award was established in 1996 and is named after the past chair of the Civil Engineering Research Foundation board of directors. It is presented annually to a leader who provides the cornerstones for improving the quality of people’s lives worldwide through research in the design and construction industry.
